Victoria Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 r60: r 60 Keep flammable gas below 5% of LEL or remove employees

While confined space work is under way, employers and self-employed persons must keep flammable gas or vapour below 5% of its lower explosive limit as far as reasonably practicable. If that is not reasonably practicable: where the level is, or is likely to be, at least 5% but under 10% of the LEL, employees must be removed at once unless a suitably calibrated flammable gas detector monitors continuously in the space while they are in it; at 10% of the LEL or more, employees must be removed at once. LEL is the concentration in air below which a flame will not spread on contact with an ignition source (ss 21, 23, 24).
