Victoria Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 r58: r 58 Manage the confined space atmosphere and respiratory protection

Employers and self-employed persons must ensure contaminants are purged or ventilated from the space as far as reasonably practicable, and never with pure oxygen or gas mixtures above 21% oxygen by volume; purging means displacing contaminants from the space. During the work the atmosphere must have a safe oxygen level, or, if not reasonably practicable, the employee must be given air-supplied respiratory equipment. The employer must also ensure no employee is exposed above any exposure standard for a contaminant, or if not reasonably practicable, provide air-supplied or other suitable respiratory protection, and must make sure employees use the protective equipment provided.
