Victoria Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 r198: r 198 Conduct biological monitoring at the required intervals

For every employee in lead-risk work the employer must arrange biological monitoring at set intervals from the last test. Under the current thresholds (r 198(1A), since the second anniversary of S.R. No. 71/2018): for men and women not of reproductive capacity, every 6 months if the last result was below 0.48 micromoles per litre (10 micrograms per decilitre), every 3 months if at least 0.48 but below 0.97 micromoles per litre (20 micrograms per decilitre), and every 6 weeks at 0.97 or above; for women of reproductive capacity, every 3 months below 0.24 micromoles per litre (5 micrograms per decilitre) and every 6 weeks from 0.24 up to below 0.48. Testing must be more frequent where an activity is reasonably likely to alter the nature of exposure significantly or to raise its duration or frequency. Where the Authority sets a different frequency for a workplace or class of employees, the employer follows it. Contractors are covered. The duties support sections 22(1) and 23 of the Act.
