The employer must make sure, as far as reasonably practicable, that each area where a lead process is done is kept clean, and that the cleaning methods used there neither create a health risk for people nearby nor risk spreading lead contamination. Dry sweeping and compressed air are the classic failures; vacuum systems with HEPA filtration and wet methods are the usual answers. The duty supports sections 21 and 23 of the Act.
