Chapter 3: Food – US FDA Food Code 2026

US FDA Food Code 2026 3-601-3-602: 3-601 and 3-602 Accurate representation and labeling

Packaged food meets federal standards of identity. Food is offered in a way that does not mislead consumers, and additives, coloured overwraps or lights are not used to misrepresent appearance, colour or quality. Food packaged in the establishment is labeled as federal law requires with common name, ingredient list in descending order (including artificial colours, flavours and chemical preservatives), net quantity, name and place of business, the food source of each major food allergen (Pf), nutrition labeling unless exempt, and disclosure of canthaxanthin or astaxanthin in salmonids. Bulk food for self-dispensing shows the maker's label or a sign with name, ingredients, allergens and nutrition information; bulk unpackaged food made on site or by a commonly owned regulated operation need not be labeled if no claim is made and no local law requires it. Required consumer warnings are given; dating information is not concealed or altered; and the permit holder notifies consumers in writing of major food allergens that are ingredients in unpackaged food served or sold.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 1 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
