US 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design 221: Assembly areas: wheelchair spaces, companion seats, designated aisle seats, lawn seating

What does 221 require?

Assembly areas must provide wheelchair spaces meeting 802.1 at the Table 221.2.1.1 rates (for instance one for 4 to 25 seats, six plus one per 150 above 500 seats, 36 plus one per 200 above 5,000), woven into the seating plan and dispersed horizontally and vertically (to each level with seating in stadium-style theatres and across price and viewing angle), including luxury boxes, club boxes and suites, with team and player seating accessible, and a companion seat beside every wheelchair space. Five percent of aisle seats must be designated aisle seats with folding or removable armrests, marked by signs. Lawn seating and exterior overflow areas must join an accessible route. Smaller assembly areas (300 seats or fewer) may choose the location of the spaces.
