US 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design 210-212: Stairways, drinking fountains, kitchens and sinks

What does 210-212 require?

Stairs forming part of an egress route, inside or outside, must meet 504 (uniform risers and treads, nosings, handrails), except stairs in inaccessible detention areas and, in alterations, stairs between levels an accessible route already joins, which need compliant handrails only. Where a site, floor or secured area has drinking fountains, two are needed (or one unit that serves both): half low for wheelchair users (602.1 to 602.6) and half high for standing users (602.7), rounded as the section specifies. Kitchens, kitchenettes and sinks that are installed must meet 804 and 606, with 5 percent of the sinks in each accessible room or space compliant (a minimum of one per type where several types exist), excluding mop and service sinks and subject to the residential dwelling unit kitchen rules.
