Parts XII and XIII: Hazardous materials and chemical safety (sections 83 to 98) – Uganda Occupational Safety and Health Act 2006

Uganda Occupational Safety and Health Act 2006 98: Duties of suppliers, manufacturers, importers and distributors: machines, process plant, instruments and vehicles designed and supplied in a suitable condition with the relevant information so that their operation and use contaminate the work environment as little as possible and pose no health hazard during production, maintenance and other activities; all chemicals classified by their toxic, chemical, physical, corrosive, irritant, allergenic, sensitising, carcinogenic, teratogenic, mutagenic and reproductive properties; containers marked for identity and labelled uniformly with legible, durable labels easily understood by workers, UN-system labelling sufficing

What does 98 require?

Suppliers, manufacturers and importers of equipment ensure that the machines, process plant, instruments and vehicles they provide reach users in suitable condition together with the relevant information, so that operating and using them adds as little as possible to work environment contamination and, so far as reasonably practicable, poses no health hazard to workers in production, maintenance and other activities. Suppliers, manufacturers, importers and distributors of hazardous substances ensure that all chemicals are classified by their characteristics, including toxic, chemical, physical, corrosive and irritant properties as well as allergenic, sensitising, carcinogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic effects and effects on the reproductive system, that containers are marked so that handlers can recognise and distinguish them on receipt and in use, and that containers carry uniform, legible, durable labels easily understood by workers and others; labelling under the United Nations system is adequate.
