Uganda Occupational Safety and Health Act 2006 13: Employer's duty to protect workers: all reasonably practicable measures, at the employer's cost, to protect workers and the public from the dangerous aspects of the undertaking and to keep the working environment free from pollution hazards by technical and organisational measures, including safe plant and systems, safe handling of articles and substances, information, instruction, training and supervision suited to the categories of workers, safe workplaces and access and exit, a safe and healthy environment with welfare facilities, correct information on the dangers of substances, and personal protective equipment where necessary

What does 13 require?

So far as reasonably practicable and at its own cost, every employer takes every measure needed to protect its workers, and the public, from the dangerous side of its undertaking, and keeps the working environment clear of pollution hazards through technical measures designed into new plant and processes or added to existing ones and through supporting organisational measures. The duty extends to providing and maintaining plant and work systems that produce a safe working environment, its surroundings included; arrangements that keep the use, handling, storing and transporting of articles and substances safe and free of health risk; adequate information, instruction, training and supervision for employees' safety and health and for the use of OSH measures, with regard to what each category of worker does and can do; keeping workplaces under the employer's control safe and without health risk with safe means of access and exit; a working environment that is safe, without health risk and adequate in welfare facilities and arrangements; correct information to all concerned on the real and potential dangers of the substances used, including toxicity tests and environmental impact assessments; and adequate personal protective equipment where necessary.
