Sections 7 to 16: Policy and the general duties of employers, self-employed persons, manufacturers and suppliers, employees and chief executive officers – South Africa Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993

South Africa Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 7: Health and safety policy when directed: a written policy on protecting employees' health and safety, including the organisation and the arrangements for carrying it out and reviewing it, displayed prominently and signed by the chief executive officer

What does 7 require?

The chief inspector may direct a particular employer in writing, or a category of employers by Gazette notice, to prepare a written policy on the protection of employees' health and safety at work, describing the employer's organisation and the arrangements for implementing and reviewing it, and the direction comes with guidelines on content. An employer so directed displays a copy of the policy, signed by the chief executive officer, prominently in the workplace where employees normally report for duty.
