Prince Edward Island Occupational Health and Safety Act General Regulations P18-21: Construction structures: bracing and supports for all loads at every stage, formwork designed and braced for its loads, covered ways and fences for the public, and platforms, runways and ramps built, guarded and sized as prescribed

What does P18-21 require?

The employer provides sufficient permanent or temporary bracing and supports so that a structure or any part safely carries every load it may meet at each stage of the project; every structure used to form concrete is designed, constructed, supported and braced to withstand its likely loads and the other requirements of section 19.1. Where construction, alteration, repair or demolition is within 2,130 mm of a sidewalk or public way, work does not start until a covered way of the prescribed height, width and strength is built, and where further away a fence or boarding at least 1,800 mm high is erected. Runways, ramps and platforms other than scaffold platforms are designed, built and maintained for their expected loads, at least 480 mm wide, securely fastened at both ends, ramps sloped no more than 300 mm in 900 mm with cleats as required, and guardrails fitted on open sides.
