Chapter 6: Transfer switches and protection – NFPA 111-2025 Standard on Stored Electrical Energy Emergency and Standby Power Systems

NFPA 111-2025 Standard on Stored Electrical Energy Emergency and Standby Power Systems 6.5: 6.5 Protection

Overcurrent devices in the SEPSS are coordinated for selective tripping on short circuit, with available fault current from both utility and emergency source checked; ratings of integral fuses and breakers are coordinated with downstream devices so the least critical part of the load is cleared first; where the ECE limits current electronically, internal transfer switches move the load to the alternate source; and EPSS overcurrent devices are reachable only by authorized persons.
