Chapter 6: Transfer switches and protection – NFPA 111-2025 Standard on Stored Electrical Energy Emergency and Standby Power Systems

NFPA 111-2025 Standard on Stored Electrical Energy Emergency and Standby Power Systems 6.1: 6.1 Switching, protection and dc rating

Switching in this chapter means any device that transfers load between sources, sheds or switches load, bypasses, isolates or tests a transfer or isolation switch in a static system, isolates a faulted internal component or bypasses the ECE; protection means sensing or inherent overload devices such as fuses and breakers guarding the static system against external and internal faults. Gear connected to batteries or any other dc supply must be identified for dc service and carry a dc voltage and current rating.
