Chapter 5: Emergency power supply: energy sources, converters and accessories – NFPA 110-2025 Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems

NFPA 110-2025 Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems 5.6.7: 5.6.7 Prime mover cooling systems

Cooling is forced air, natural convection, liquid or a combination; Level 1 liquid-cooled engines use closed-loop cooling by unit radiator, remote radiator or liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger. Cooling must prevent overheating at full load at the highest expected ambient and the site elevation; remote radiator fans and pumps are fed from the EPS output ahead of the first load overcurrent device; heat exchanger secondaries are closed loop; a full-load site test must not reach the high-temperature pre-alarm; continuous utility water flow may not be relied on (utility water only for filling); and design covers radiator, pipe and pump sizing, isolation valves, de-aeration, drains and flexible hoses.
