NASRHP Self-Regulating Health Profession Certifying Entity Membership Standards (Australia) S6: Standard 6: Operate a practitioner certification program separate from membership, with an AQF 7 entry level and annual recertification

A practitioner certification program must exist, separate from organisation membership (membership cannot be a condition of certification). It must require education at least equivalent to AQF Level 7 and a transparent, consistent assessment of competence against entry level professional standards by accredited program, a government-approved program (including overseas recognition) or a validated procedure; where an external entity's certification is required, the entity must show it meets NASRHP's requirements and keep informed of changes. Evidence at initial certification includes academic transcripts and qualifications, change of name documents, certified proof of identity, home-country certification history, English language compliance and recency of practice, with declarations of understanding of the code, professional standards, recency and other policies, fitness to practise, privacy consent, truthfulness and a promise to notify changes; non-English documents must come with translations. Support, supervision and mentoring for newly certified and returning practitioners must be evidenced, and recertification must be annual (certification out of cycle may run pro rata up to 15 months).
