The twelve membership standards – NASRHP Self-Regulating Health Profession Certifying Entity Membership Standards (Australia)

NASRHP Self-Regulating Health Profession Certifying Entity Membership Standards (Australia) S5: Standard 5: Keep public, outcome-based professional standards that drive certification, with a seven year review limit

Current documentation of the standards of practice for independent work in the profession in Australia must be public, and the entity must use assessment against the professional standards to decide certification, with the method documented and consistently applied (and, where an external body decides eligibility, monitoring of how it applies and changes the standards). The standards must be outcome based and measurable or observable, and must at minimum cover legal requirements such as confidentiality, documentation, interprofessional practice, working within scope, client focused care, value-based care, culturally safe care, best available evidence, evaluating outcomes, ethical and professional standards, and reflective practice and lifelong learning (members making medical devices must also refer to therapeutic goods rules). A review or change must be documented with broad stakeholder consultation including State and Territory jurisdictions, and a planned review date must be noted that is no more than seven years after release, earlier if the profession changes or the standards stop reflecting practice.
