Chapter 7: meters with current transformers (even with the ratio applied internally), gas meters (unless default correction factors are used) and remote meter reading systems must be validated; water meters, PV inverter data, compliant third-party EV charger data and manually read direct-connect meters need not be. Embedded network meters are treated as utility meters only where the owner is an authorised retailer or holds a registrable AER network exemption for the address (not NR7, deemed, retail or individual exemptions). CT meters are checked by a licensed electrician for wiring faults (multiplier mismatch, disconnected, reversed or cross-phased CTs, fuse faults) and the CT ratio confirmed (programmed ratios correct if measured and meter currents differ by under 10 % per phase); cloud systems confirm CT identity and same-board voltage and current. Gas meters use a measured pressure correction factor, commissioning data within 10 years, or defaults (utility factor for inclusions, 1 for exclusions). Remote systems need two simultaneous meter and system readings by a competent person. At lodgement at least 10 % of each meter type must have been validated within 10 years for the premises' first Perform rating, 50 % for the second and 100 % from the third. Evidence must be a dated certificate or record of the present configuration.
