On receiving an emeritus affidavit the Board office verifies it and posts the lawyer's name on its website as emeritus for three years. Emeritus status expires three years after posting and the lawyer may not represent clients after that unless it is renewed beforehand. Renewal is by a fresh Appendix IV affidavit listing the same categories of credits from the preceding year, a signed certification that when the lawyer gives pro bono representation across several areas (a brief advice clinic, for instance), the lawyer will obtain the training and resources to do so competently and ethically, and the approximate pro bono hours performed in each of the three prior years.
