ITU Radio Regulations and Space Security Standards RES4: Resolution 4 (Rev.WRC-03): Period of validity of frequency assignments to space stations

What does RES4 require?

Space station assignments are not perpetual: an assignment is deemed definitively discontinued when the period of operation on the notice, limited to the network's design life and counted from bringing into service, expires, and the notifying administration is invited to cancel it (1.1); the period may be extended if the Bureau is told more than three years before expiry with other characteristics unchanged (1.2); a replacement satellite with new characteristics at the same position and frequency, coordinated under No. 9.7 at least three years before expiry, keeps its standing if it does not increase interference (1.3); other changes follow Nos. 11.43A to 11.46 (1.4); the period of validity is notified in addition to Appendix 4 (2). It does not apply to the Appendix 30B Plan.
