ITAR - International Traffic in Arms Regulations 120.56: Control releases of technical data by inspection, exchange and access information

Technical data is released by visual or other inspection of a defense article that reveals it to a foreign person, by oral or written exchanges with foreign persons in the United States or abroad, or by using access information (decryption keys, network access codes, passwords, 120.55) to let a foreign person, including oneself, access unencrypted data, or to cause data outside the United States to be unencrypted; providing access information to a foreign person requires the same authorisation as releasing the data (120.56).
