Clause 7.2: Respond (early warning, protecting and securing people, response organisation) – ISO/TS 22330:2018

ISO/TS 22330:2018 7.2.3.4: Identify, communicate and practise shelter in place

What does 7.2.3.4 require?

Response team leaders should know which risks call for sheltering in place, meaning any event where going outside presents a greater risk, such as severe weather, a chemical, biological or radiological release, a nearby explosion or gunfire. Shelter areas should be clearly marked and reachable, and the procedures made known to and practised by workforce and visitors, considering safer spots away from windows, lift lobbies and basements; how people in shelter will be communicated with; accounting for people; managing air conditioning (off or recirculation); food, water and toilets; individual concerns; location security; the safest evacuation route once the threat has reduced; and liaison with emergency services.
