Where evacuation is complex, as for offshore facilities needing helicopters and ships or for repatriation from international locations, the organisation should hold a practised plan for establishing and running a survivor reception centre wherever is most suitable, coordinated with government and emergency services or run on its own to meet its duty of care, with access controlled throughout so that survivors and families are shielded from the media and unconfirmed casualty information does not leak. The centre gives shelter and information straight away, registers survivors and accounts for people, liaises with the emergency services and any casualty bureau, offers communications, first aid, triage and transfer to medical care, critical incident psychological management, refreshments, toilets, showers and dry clean clothing, first interviews of survivors as witnesses with evidence gathering, and separate space for the families of survivors or of the missing, and it can bring families and friends back together with survivors.
