Because everyone has a part in business continuity, continuity managers should work with top and line managers and with human resources and communications colleagues on three fronts: ownership, making clear how each person contributes to managing risk and delivering continuity by writing requirements into job roles and objectives; involvement, drawing people into developing and improving their departmental plans, prompting them to consider what an incident would mean for them and their role, inviting support roles into exercises, and sharing exercise results and improvement steps; and communication, developing awareness programmes on the continuity policy and response plans through multiple tools, reinforced for example by portable continuity cards with immediate actions.
