Clause 2.3: The seven quality management principles – ISO 9000:2015

ISO 9000:2015 2.3.3: Engagement of people: competent, empowered and engaged people at all levels create and deliver value

What does 2.3.3 require?

Statement: people who are competent, empowered and engaged, at every level, are essential if the organisation is to grow its ability to create and deliver value. Rationale: running an organisation well means respecting and involving everyone at every level; recognising people, empowering them and building their competence draws them into achieving the quality objectives. Likely benefits: people understand the quality objectives better and are more motivated to meet them, join in improvement more, develop more, show more initiative and creativity, are more satisfied, trust and collaborate more, and pay more attention to shared values and culture. Suggested actions: talk with people so that they understand why their own contribution matters; promote collaboration across the organisation; make room for open discussion and for sharing knowledge and experience; empower people to work out what holds performance back and to take initiative without fear; recognise and acknowledge what people contribute, learn and improve; let people assess their own performance against personal objectives; and run satisfaction surveys, report the results and act on them.
