The organization should set an approach to managing strategic intelligence. It should consider: gathering intelligence from sources inside and outside the organization; working with relevant interested parties; using tools and methods such as analytics, data mining, prediction markets, technology surveillance and environmental scanning; looking from several angles (now and in the future, inside and outside, supply and demand, users and providers, competitors, and products, services, processes, models and methods that are new or have changed); and influencing activities that help innovations gain acceptance, for example on how regulatory requirements, standards and innovation ecosystems develop. Strategic intelligence can involve acquiring, collecting, interpreting, analysing, evaluating and applying the data, information and knowledge needed, and passing it to, or sharing it among, the people who take decisions and other interested parties.
