The organization should identify and supply, when they are needed, the resources required to set up, run, maintain and keep improving the innovation management system. It should consider taking a proactive, open, flexible and adaptable approach to resourcing; what existing internal support can and cannot do; what must be sourced from external providers through outsourcing or partnering; collaboration inside and outside, for instance sharing or reuse, to make the best use of resources; ring-fencing resources for innovation activities apart from other work; and building capabilities for innovation activities over the long term.
