ISO 56002 7.1.4: Knowledge

What does 7.1.4 require?

The organization should set an approach to managing knowledge that lets the innovation management system be implemented effectively. It should consider: capturing knowledge from inside and outside, whether tacit or explicit, that comes from intelligence and experience, such as the context, what was learned from initiatives that succeeded or failed, and performance analysis; making knowledge easy to reach and reuse so that it is not lost or duplicated; keeping a way to analyse information and to manage the knowledge held now and needed later, for example directories of who knows what and is interested in what, or resource planning data; how far, and by what means, intellectual assets are kept confidential and protected; ethical questions in using knowledge; and ranking outside knowledge sources by how reliable, accessible and costly they are. Knowledge can belong to individuals or to groups and can be tacit or explicit; outside sources include users, customers, partners, providers, consultants, competitors, databases, networks of experts, conferences, standards and academia.
