Clause 4 The governance of organizations: conditions, delegation, the governing body – ISO 37000:2021

ISO 37000:2021 4.1: General

What does 4.1 require?

Governance of organizations is a system run by people through which an organization is given direction, overseen and called to account for reaching its defined organizational purpose. At its centre are: defining the organizational purpose and values and committing to them; deciding how value will be generated; giving direction to and engaging with strategy so that value is generated; overseeing that the organization performs and conducts itself as the governing body expects; and showing accountability for that performance and conduct. The document sets out governance conditions (clause 4), principles (clause 6) and key aspects of practice for governing body members and governing groups, for those they oversee, for those they answer to, and for stakeholders affected by governance.
