ISO 26000:2010 7.5.1: The role of communication in social responsibility

What does 7.5.1 require?

Communication plays a vital part in many aspects of social responsibility: making people inside and outside the organization aware of its strategies, objectives, plans, performance and difficulties; showing respect for the clause 4 principles; involving stakeholders and opening dialogue with them; satisfying legal and other disclosure obligations; demonstrating how the organization is keeping its commitments and answering stakeholders' interests and what society expects; giving information about the effects of its activities, products and services and how those effects shift over time; involving and motivating employees and others to back its social responsibility work; making it easier to compare the organization with similar ones; and strengthening its standing for responsible, open, honest and accountable conduct so that stakeholders trust it more.
