From the issues identified as significant and relevant, with stakeholders taking part in identifying them, an organization should decide on and commit to the priorities it will follow in building social responsibility into the whole organization and its everyday practice. In doing so it should consider: how it currently performs against legal compliance, international standards and norms, leading practice and the best practice available; whether the issue could seriously affect its capacity to achieve important objectives; what effect action would have compared with the resources it would need; how long results would take; whether leaving the issue unaddressed would soon become expensive; and how easily and quickly action could be taken, as a means of building awareness and motivation. It may also set priorities for issues linked to future activities, such as building works, recruitment or fund-raising, so these are built into planning. It should review and revise its priorities at suitable intervals.
