Clause 6.6: Fair operating practices – ISO 26000:2010

ISO 26000:2010 6.6.6: Fair operating practices issue 4: Promoting social responsibility in the value chain

What does 6.6.6 require?

To advance social responsibility along its value chain, an organization should: build criteria on ethics, gender equality, social and environmental matters, together with health and safety, into the way it buys, distributes and contracts; encourage other organizations to take up similar policies, without behaving anti-competitively; exercise suitable due diligence over, and monitor, the organizations it deals with so that its social responsibility commitments are not undermined; consider helping small and medium-sized organizations through awareness raising and practical help to reach socially responsible goals; take an active part in making the organizations it deals with aware of social responsibility principles and issues; and encourage a fair and workable sharing of the costs and benefits of socially responsible practice across the value chain, including building value chain partners' capacity and buying responsibly, for example by paying fair prices, allowing enough time for delivery and offering stable contracts.
