Clause 6.3: Human rights – ISO 26000:2010

ISO 26000:2010 6.3.3: 6.3.3 Human rights issue 1: Due diligence

Respecting human rights places on an organization a responsibility to carry out due diligence so that it finds, prevents and deals with the human rights effects, actual or potential, of its own activities or of those it has relationships with. Scaled to its size and situation, the process should include: a human rights policy that gives real guidance to people inside the organization and those closely connected to it; ways to judge how current and planned activities could affect human rights; ways to embed the policy across the organization; ways to follow performance over time so that priorities and approach can be adjusted; and action to deal with the harmful effects of its decisions and activities (7.3.1 carries the general guidance on due diligence).
