Measures prevent, control or detect physical contamination, weighing covers over equipment and containers holding exposed materials or product, screens, magnets, sieves or filters, and detection or rejection equipment (metal detection, X-ray). Typical sources are wooden pallets, wooden tools, rubber seals and protective clothing. Where brittle materials are present there are periodic inspection requirements and a defined breakage procedure, glass and hard plastic components are avoided where possible, and breakage records are kept.
