ILO-OSH 2001 Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems
Chapter 3 Planning and implementation: initial review, system planning, objectives, hazard prevention (3.7 to 3.10) – ILO-OSH 2001 Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems

ILO-OSH 2001 Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems 3.10.5: Apply the organisation's safety and health requirements, or at least the equivalent, to contractors and their workers: OSH criteria in contractor selection, communication and coordination before work starts including hazards and controls, reporting of contractor injuries and incidents, hazard awareness and training before and during the work, regular monitoring of contractor OSH performance, and enforcement of on-site OSH procedures

What does 3.10.5 require?

Arrangements ensure that the organisation's safety and health requirements, or at least equivalent ones, apply to contractors and their workers. For contractors on site the arrangements build OSH criteria into the way contractors are evaluated and selected; set up effective communication and coordination between the appropriate levels of the organisation and the contractor before work starts, including passing on hazards and the measures that prevent and control them; provide for reporting of work-related harm and incidents among the contractor's workers while they work for the organisation; give hazard awareness and training to contractors or their workers before work begins and as it proceeds where needed; monitor the contractor's OSH performance on site regularly; and ensure contractors follow the site's OSH procedures and arrangements.
