EPA RCRA Hazardous Waste Management 266.508: § 266.508 Shipping non-creditable hazardous waste pharmaceuticals from a healthcare facility or evaluated hazardous waste pharmaceuticals from a reverse distributor

Healthcare facilities shipping non-creditable, and reverse distributors shipping evaluated, hazardous waste pharmaceuticals must send them to a designated facility (such as a permitted or interim status TSDF) after packaging under DOT 49 CFR parts 173, 178 and 180, labelling under part 172 subpart E, marking under part 172 subpart D with each container of 119 gallons or less marked "HAZARDOUS WASTE, Federal Law Prohibits Improper Disposal" and the contact statement (lab packs for incineration under 268.42(c) need only D004 to D008, D010 and D011 codes; bar codes or RFID may carry codes), and placarding; and must use the Part 262 Subpart B manifest, except that a healthcare facility need not list waste codes in Item 13 but must write "PHRM" or "PHARMS" there. Exports and imports follow Part 262 Subpart H, and imported non-creditable or evaluated pharmaceuticals may be accepted only by a facility with a permit or interim status allowing off-site receipts.
