Mutual recognition (cross acceptance) of a previous acceptance may limit the life cycle effort as a special case of tailoring, including specific applications of a generic product or application: establish a credible argument with evidence for the original reference application, specify the target environment and application, identify the differences with evidence that the operating and environmental setting is the same or comparable and the requirements still appropriate, set out the technical, operating and procedural changes needed, evaluate the risks the differences bring, argue with evidence that the adaptations control those risks, and develop the argument for mutual recognition.
