RAMS is managed on the life cycle model of Figure 6: twelve phases in three blocks (assessing risk from the system definition up to specifying the RAMS requirements; implementation and demonstration of compliance; operation, maintenance and decommissioning), with a feedback loop for reassessing risk whenever new knowledge arises in any phase and control loops that may skip or repeat phases; other life cycle representations may be used if they meet the standard's requirements, and the risk assessment is generally confirmed once the life cycle is complete.
