Controllers should delete raw data (face images, speech, gait) and make sure deletion is effective, and must delete it when no lawful basis remains; if raw data must be kept, noise-adding methods such as watermarking should be explored so templates cannot be built from it. Biometric data and templates must be deleted if the reader terminal or storage server is accessed without authorisation, and data no longer useful must be deleted when the device reaches the end of its life.
