Protective clothing must be washed by an approved laundry, either contracted or on site, whose effectiveness is validated against defined criteria, which keeps dirty and clean clothing apart, cleans effectively and protects cleaned clothing on its way back. Washing by employees is an exception, allowed only where the clothing protects the wearer rather than the product, or where it is worn solely in areas that are low-risk or hold enclosed product, and instructions must then make sure the washing is effective.
