Part 2-2: general duties of accountable authorities, accountable authority instructions, government policy, and the general duties of officials (sections 14 to 32) – Australia Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act)

Australia Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) 28: Duty not to use information improperly: a person who obtains information because they are or were an official must not use it to gain a benefit or advantage for themselves or another or to cause detriment to the entity, the Commonwealth or another person

What does 28 require?

Information that comes to a person because they are an official of a Commonwealth entity must not be put to improper use, whether to win or seek a benefit or advantage for themselves or another, or to cause or seek detriment to the entity, the Commonwealth or anyone else. The restriction follows the information, so it continues after the person has left the role.
