Standard 10: Specimen testing – Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027)

Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027) 10.12: Internal quality assurance: where no suitable EQA exists, use alternative internal quality assurance for the preanalytical, analytical and postanalytical phases, addressing high-risk collection and testing areas through comparison with other accredited laboratories, demonstrating result validity through reference material or interlaboratory comparison such as sample exchange, and using peer review through formal sample exchange, formal second opinion or informal second opinion to compare diagnoses

What does 10.12 require?

Where no suitable external program exists, internal quality assurance fills the gap across all three phases: high-risk areas of collection and testing are compared with other accredited laboratories; result validity is shown by testing reference material or by comparing across laboratories, for instance through sample exchange; and diagnoses are compared through peer review, whether by swapping slides under a formal scheme or by seeking a second opinion, formal or informal.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 1 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
