Australia Model Work Health and Safety Regulations
Part 5.1: General duties for plant and structures – Australia Model Work Health and Safety Regulations

Australia Model Work Health and Safety Regulations r190-192: rr 190 to 192 Designers: operator controls, emergency stops and warning devices

The design provides operator controls that are identified by nature, function and direction, readily operable, located or guarded against unintentional activation and lockable in the off position to disconnect all motive power; where operation during maintenance or cleaning cannot be avoided, controls allow operation only by the person maintaining or cleaning and in a way that eliminates or minimises risk. Where more than one person operates plant with more than one emergency stop, the stops are stop-and-lock-off so the plant cannot restart until the used stop is reset; emergency stops are prominent, clearly and durably marked, immediately accessible, with red handles, bars or buttons, and not affected by electrical or electronic malfunction; emergency warning devices are positioned to work to best effect.
