A PCBU must monitor conditions in the work environment, including facilities, to ensure workers' health and safety. Monitoring should be regular and especially follow changes in the type of work or workforce composition. The environment must be kept clean and safe: broken or damaged furniture, fixtures and fittings (chairs, plumbing, air-conditioning, lighting) replaced or repaired promptly, facilities clean, safe, accessible and in working order, and consumables such as soap and toilet paper replenished regularly. Cleaning should reflect the type of work, contamination likelihood, number of users including across shifts, and the type of facility. Appendix B may be used as a review checklist.
