Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Work Environment and Facilities 1.1a: 1.1 The PCBU must provide a work environment and facilities free of risk, physical and psychosocial

A PCBU must eliminate the physical and psychosocial risks arising from the work environment and facilities, or where that is not reasonably practicable minimise them so far as is reasonably practicable (WHS Act s 19). So far as reasonably practicable that means providing adequate and accessible welfare facilities; providing and maintaining work environments, plant, structures and systems of work without risk; ensuring safe use, handling and storage of plant, structures and substances; giving access to toilets, drinking water, washing and eating facilities; providing information, training, instruction and supervision; and monitoring the health of workers and conditions of the workplace. The Regulations add specific rules for psychosocial hazards, hazardous chemicals, remote and isolated work, noise, hazardous manual tasks and plant.
