Section 3: Controlling risks from purchase to disposal – Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace

Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace 3.8a: 3.8 Control the risks of powered mobile plant (rr 214 and 215)

The person with management or control of powered mobile plant must manage the risks of the plant overturning, things falling on the operator, the operator being ejected, the plant colliding with any person or thing, and mechanical failure of pressurised elements releasing fluids. They must ensure so far as reasonably practicable that a suitable combination of operator protective devices is provided, maintained and used, and that the plant does not collide with pedestrians or other powered mobile plant, including by deliberate misuse for which barriers may be needed. Measures must also stop the plant moving of its own accord and prevent unauthorised operation: for example an industrial lift truck left on a firm level surface with the handbrake on, motor off and key removed, with operators understanding the procedure.
