Section 3: Controlling risks from purchase to disposal – Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace

Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace 3.2b: 3.2 Position plant so it can be used, accessed and escaped safely

Plant should be positioned so risks from hot plant are controlled by restricted access, guarding or insulation; there is enough space, suggested at 600 mm minimum, for safe operation, cleaning, maintenance, inspection and emergency evacuation and for workers to pass without touching; the plant does not block doors or emergency exits; proximity to other plant does not affect operation or work processes; it rests on a suitable foundation; ventilation can handle the emissions; and workers and others are not exposed to noise above the exposure standard, with sound insulation or mounting considered.
