Section 3: Controlling risks from purchase to disposal – Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace

Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace 3.7: 3.7 Leave plant not in use in a safe state and recommission after storage (r 207)

A person with management or control of plant must ensure so far as reasonably practicable that plant not in use is left in a state that creates no risk to anyone's health or safety. When plant is stored provide designer and manufacturer safety information to those who dismantle or store it, release stored energy, lower parts that fall under gravity, support plant to prevent toppling, secure plant that could be used as a weapon or lethal means of self-harm, and control the risk of damage during storage such as corrosion from hazardous substance residues. After extended storage the plant should be recommissioned with the same level of testing and inspection as at first commissioning. Plant taken off-line is plant not in use and may need isolation from power, lock-out and tag-out and physical stops, for example a robot removed from a welding line.
