Harness-based systems should limit free fall before arrest to 2 metres at most, less where possible, with enough clearance below for the system and shock absorber to deploy fully, taking into account the worker's height, anchorage height and position, lanyard length, slack and stretch in lifelines and lanyards, and extended energy absorber length. Lanyards should not be combined with inertia reels. A correctly fitted full body harness should be worn, connected at the dorsal or chest point that best suits the fall distance, likely impact, post-fall position and equipment such as rope grabs. Keep minimum slack, anchor as high as the equipment allows and avoid working above the anchor. Inertia reels may not lock on steep roof slopes, should not be used as working supports, may be used with bosun's chairs and ladders, and carry only one person per line.
