Individual fall arrest systems (anchorages and rails, lifelines, lanyards, shock absorbers, inertia reels, rope and wire grabs, harness, double or triple action connectors, rescue equipment) depend on correct use, so users must be trained and should have a responsible attitude to safety at height, wear suitable head protection, and not reuse equipment that has arrested a fall until a competent person has inspected and certified it. They must be used only where higher controls are not reasonably practicable. Equipment should be permanently marked to reduce misuse, and lines that can contact concrete or steel edges should be of a type shown not to fail in that use.
