Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risk of Falls at Workplaces 7.2: 7.2 Safety nets

Safety nets allow freedom of movement but should not be used for access or as a working platform. When used with basic rigging or scaffolding work they must be erected and serviced by holders of a basic rigging or basic scaffolding high risk work licence (or supervised enrolled trainees). Nets should be strong enough to catch a person or object, anchored before work starts, hung as close as practicable and no more than 2 metres below the work, tensioned with clearance so a falling person does not hit anything below, inspected especially after installation, relocation or repair, and stored dry, shaded and ventilated. No hot work should be done above them and debris should not be allowed to build up in them.
